Prairie Storm
03:41
|
|||
Snow flew around
Never quite hitting
Smoke-like ghost
Constantly whirling
Bright yellow meadows accented by white
Wind-breaking forest of poplar and pine
Well our ride was drifting
Slightly to and fro
If it weren’t for the headlights
There would be no road
Orange lights bounce off heavy clouds
A city so taunting, the high rises scowl
Steady stream convoys
All move their load
Through icy highways
These treacherous roads
Bright yellow meadows accented by white
Wind-breaking forest of poplar and pine

I’ve got a knick-knack
For every thought I’ve had
Collecting dust on the shelf
I got a couple snow globes
For the places I’d like to go
That I got at the antique store
And all the posters that litter my walls
Of all the bands I’ll never get to see
They no longer play shows
But their music lives on
On the backs of my scratched cds
I sure have a few fridge magnets
Of some close (but not too close) relatives
I don’t know 'em that much at all
But they’ll still give me a call
And ask
How I’ve been
I got some stamps that my grandmère she gave me
Tucked away safe and pristine
She says that they’re worth
Un gros montant
But I have a hard time believing
That that’s the truth
I sure have some shitty tattoos
That I got when I wasn’t quite there
They look kinda funny
And also quite scummy
And remind me that I’ll always make
Mistakes

Round My Home
03:12
|
|||
Take a look around my home
I got some things for you to find
Sweat-stained shirts and dirty halls
Plants growing on the vine
I got a bike with no gears and a heart that barely beats
A fortress built of dirty dishes and walls that love to speak
I got mostly empty coffee cups, dust balls and cat hair
I’ll open up these windows to let the ghosts get some fresh air
Take a look around my home
I got some things for you to find
Grease stained pants and dirty halls
Plants growing on the vine
I got an SPCA calendar with Xs on each day
I’m counting down the hours until I reach that early grave
Take a look around my home I got some things for you to find

Hate Makes Fire
04:07
|

He looked at his cup as it overflowed
By god my love am I getting old
I gave up on my dreams
And they came back in my sleep
And I broke them down
Screaming and tearing at the seams
Well she was born with the ace of hearts
Buried deep inside her throat she’d like to tear it apart
And hand out the pieces to the men she loved
Love can make a good smoke
But hate makes fire
Well this was his head and these were his thoughts
Burrowed away from the angels that fought
And sang out the hymns of romance and fame
Oh you know he won’t be listening to those sirens again
Well he was born with the ace of clubs buried deep beneath his skin
He’d like to shred it apart
Hand out the pieces to the men he loathed
Well love can make a good smoke
But hate makes fire
I saw them stand their ground until the earth caved in
There were holes inside their shoes from where their soles had been
And I saw the clouds
Laying deep in the valley
Hanging by the springs it was the grand finale
We know that they were born with the queen of spades
Hiding in the background digging early graves
And sending invitations to the folks they loved
Well love can make a good smoke
I said well love can make a good smoke
I said well love can make a good smoke
But hate makes fire

Taxi Driver
03:49
|

Hello taxi driver I drank a little too much
I don’t know where I live and I’ve forgotten how to love
My heart's fallen apart and I don’t care to pick it up
So won't you drive me around this town and I’ll tell you where to stop
You see my friend just got laid off
And she don’t know what to do
She may travel for a while and sip a little booze
These hard tough times have got me down
We were promised so damn much
And now we're getting kicked around all to fulfill
The fatman's broken dream
To sell synthetic happiness in exchange for our self esteem
Well hello taxi driver would it kill you to speed up
I’m not made out of money and I don’t think I have enough
You see my bank's fallen apart and when I call they don’t pick up
They sent me to collections for the interest that won't stop
My friend just moved out west cause there’s no work over here
Now he’s working in the rigs with his sweat, blood and tears
These hard tough times have got me down
We were promised so damn much
And now we're getting kicked around all to fulfill
The fatman's broken dream
To sell synthetic happiness in exchange for our self esteem
Sorry taxi driver I’ve been talking your ear off
Just drop me at this corner it won't be a long walk
I’m always on my feet
Oh my fare is 20 bucks
Here’s a 10 dollar bill
It’s all I got

A Little Bit of Nothing
02:49
|
|||
A little bit of nothing
Has never meant so much
And the deck he was given
Was shuffled but not a lot
And the gun was fully loaded
Playing roulette in the dark
But at least he’s got a dream
And it seems to be enough
Well he’s been sleeping on the floor
Since light first touched his feet
And there’s no yellow brick road
It’s paved with rusted steel
The tin man has no heart
He doesn’t need to feel
Since the factories been closed
But at least he got his meal
Wait for a moment and see if things get better
Even though it may be cloudy and its seems like stormy weather
Though the smoke may be thick
At least theres no fire to put out
Confined to a chair
He laid claim to the concrete
A pack of cigarettes and a cup that’s all he needs
Watching people pass
Calling the throw incomplete
A man of the fringe
Where he’s quite happy to be
He tells me the same story
Every time I pass
Leave all your possessions
So you can live again
Be free and don't worry its fine to be alone
As long as you don’t mind calling yourself home
Wait for a moment and see if things get better
Even though it may be cloudy and its seems like stormy weather
Though the smoke may be thick
At least theres no fire to put out
